rather tame, but ...
i don't want to have to pack it all up again very soon ...

Here are some of them
But I have some down in my office, too
Yes. This here is what I want. Most of mine are packed away in closets, but when I buy a house it will have a library.
This is only some of our books. The rest are scattered all over the house.
Yea, but those types are so high maintenance. Nori, head scritchings... That's a lot of work! :-)
Hope you're doing well. I miss you.
nothing but boxes in a garage at the moment.
i'm also lacking in the hot librarian department.
Sadly, I am in the same boat.
This is actually the bookcase I left with the ex, and only 1/4 of it to boot (there's another half of that shelf, and another shelf above it), but I don't have one currently to share. :(
I miss the good old days, back when I took this picture and there was still space on the shelves.
I spent part of today purging books to donate to the Friends of the Library and it's still packed...
Oooh good idea! My library is my most favorite room of my house.
To the left are my three autographs and pictures with Tori Amos (YAY!) and on top of the middle bookcase is a picture and autograph for the time I went backstage to meet John Fogerty.
On the other side of my room are my Tori Tour goodies:
My piano, Belle, is underneath that, with my music folios and Melora Bobblehead doll:Edited at 2008-10-07 01:35 am (UTC)
just from this semester. The thesis pile will grow significantly over the next few months.
This is my shelf. We also have one for my wife and one that we share, but this is the "Paul's books" shelf.
Okay, I'll take a crack at it. :-) I used to feel slightly guilty when I possessed so many books I had not read yet. But then my mother reminded me of a better perspective. "Honey," she said, "do you really think those photos you see of wall to wall books -- those people have read every. single. one? No? That's because you are creating a personal LIBRARY. The book will be there when you're ready." And for the past year, I've been focusing on just that. Building my library.
Allow me to introduce......
And last but not least.....NFG's Shelf ;-)
it's about having the book you need when you need it. absolutely. NFG would be pleased, i'm sure.
Sleepy, cell phone, stitched too quickly, but here. And also, Dolly Parton is in it. So that trumps my lack of time/skill! :)
And since I thought you'd get a kick--this is in my bedroom, I thought it appropriate. As my husband says, "our whole house is a bookshelf..."
Your bookshelves are total win. They'd be merely 'meh' without Roz there to add beauty and elegance. ;)

I once stalked Agatha Christie for six years, until I found out she was dead. So now I stalk Gardner Dozois.

your stacks under the mattress
A recent move and lack of time have led to this unconventional storage arrangement...
Trust me, sleeping directly over Heinlein, Buffet, that book on Sumo wrestling, the Harvard Business Review, and Hunter S. Thompson, I have the MOST remarkable dreams...
(HST usually wins)
a view of my room - I don't have enough wall space for all the bookshelves I need - waaah!
My bookshelves would look like yours if I hadn't pared down my collection prior to moving. :/
I'd show you but it'd take too many photos. }:P
tHere's 4 bookcases in the bedroom, one in here, 2 in the hall and 3 downstairs. Heh.
go ahead! take too many photos!
These shelves are old bee hives.
not shown: the pile next to the bed. the pile at the head of the bed. the pile on the couch. and other piles.
i'm trying to get rid of the pile next to the bed, which got a few feet deep. yikes.
i really desperately want an observational bee hive, with the frame inside the house.
You asked on the day my camera charger finally came in the mail. How can I not?
This is the permanent collection. An identical built in on the other side of the fireplace holds books to trade, my nightstand has to-be-read, being read and just finished books, and the functional books go in appropriate places (cookbooks in the kitchen, textbooks and reference on my desk). My girlfriend has 13 boxes of books that have yet to be unpacked in our back room, over a year past moving in.
and the cat! bonus points!
4 cases in one corners, two in the opposite, and kids and reference off to the side (and a pile on my desk and boxes of weaving books upstairs.)
so how much do custom shelves run?
we paid about $1300. the home depot book lists built in bookshelves as "easy" -- but it was time consuming. the club for the gentry was out of commission for about a month.
Taken with my iPhone from where I sit on the floor at my computer:
the books above the hat are on top of the fridge, and you can't quite make them out due to the exposure, but I have white cabinets in the kitchen area wherein there are even more books. Woo!

Terrible camera phone shots, hasty mosaic, girl in need of more shelves. This comment has it all!
Which one? We have 6.
Also do we have to have Grendel sitting on it when we take the picture?
1) a number between 1 and 6
Okay, here's mine. Everything's in flux, and the basement holds a lot of plastic tubs of books.
These are the ones in my room. Just above the ironing board, there's a Tori Amos backstage pass stuck on the support.
Some of the art books.
Living room: DVDs to the left, books center. Trash-picked cabinet to the right stuffed with my Harlan Ellison and Neal Stephenson collections.
The other trash-picked cabinet, which has mostly sets: Stephen jay Gould, Patrick O'Brian, Flashman, Harry Potter, Robert Caro, James Ellroy.
The oversize art books in the living room.
I need to finish buying the Patrick O'Brian series!
