|catching up with more Hugo stuff

trillian_stars wore this Kambriel dress on Saturday. You can get a dress like this or one of her other creations at her website she also makes numerous one of a kind creations.
uberfan david a. kyle was a the very first worldcon. i met him hanging out at the george r. r. martin party.
the 2009 Hugo base (the rocket is the same, the base is different every year) was designed by Dave Howell and I think it's one of the most beautiful. Greg from Dreamhaven books accepted these two for Phil and Kaja Foglio who couldn't be there and he had them on display Monday.
I need to finish up a short story, I'd been hoping to get to it last night but we ended up watching Shutter with friends -- tres cool Thai horror movie about a photographer. Still not back in the groove of things. I have a meeting with my agent tonight about Where I Write and also I have a phone meeting with the Livejournal advisory board.
And we got new flatware. Whee.
That is all.
You realize, of course, that the picture of trillian_stars
in That Freaking Dress is going to completely overshadow anything else in this post.
And how does one get a Kambriel dress in the same style?
WHOOPS. never mind. Looked at t_s's post. Found and saving my pennies.
I'm gonna need a bigger piggy bank.
... and that particular dress is a new design -- I packed it up to send back to Kambriel, and she's going to use it as the model for future skull gowns ;)
You have to touch the fabric to really swoon over it! Such amazing quality!
Getting this out of the way first: Obviously, you look fantastic, but you could wear a cleverly belted potato sack if necessary and still look fabulous.
The thing is, the cut of the dress is so fabulous that even if you don't look like a model, it's flattering. The skirt and waistline are a lot like my wedding dress- I was hard pressed to find dresses with that exact cut two or three years ago. She is going to make a MINT from those dresses. and the more I look at the way it catches the light, the more I want to touch that black.
What? Fashion that makes beautiful people look beautiful and average people look beautiful?
Trillian ~ I just added it this morning :)The Cirque Macabre Dress
I put the stunning photo Kyle took of you on it too (which is fantastic because I didn't have a full length view yet)!
In your project to photograph amazing sci fi and fantasy writers, will you be going to any of Peter S. Beagle's upcoming appearances in Philly?
The dress is, of course, spectacular, the Hugos are beautiful, but most impressive to me -- you met a member of First Fandom in person! He's a true living treasure.
mentioned this dress to me, but this is one of the days that I didn't see you guys. I love it! It's so great!
Ah, the granite base would be why NFG mentioned that his Hugo was particularly heavy this year. ;)
Fab photos, as always.

And very likely more radioactive than usual, too!

It's great to see David Kyle still getting around, getting to Worldcon. We're running somewhat short on First Fandom.
Kyle--just curious. Obviously you've read SF for a long time, that's clear from bookshelves and discussion and so forth. It's also seemed to me that you know quite a lot about fandom. Have you been to SF conventions before, or had friends who told you all about it, or something? Or did you just do a good job of research?
Oh, and while I'm nattering at you, a friend brought me the Anticipation souvenir book with the Where I Write excerpts in it, and it looks nice (obviously better paper and reproduction would be desirable for a final book!). I don't much care for some of their layout choices, but again that's a side issue. Now I need to actually read the various bits; so far I just looked at the pictures :-). Pamela was excited to hear that she was in it.
He did some stunning shots for us at Philcon one year. I first got to meet Kyle at a PSFS (Philadelphia Science Fiction Society) meeting, back in the 90s, I think. If I'm not mistaken, he had the geeky idea of getting guests' signatures on his Newton, which I promptly stole. If I'm not mistaken....
I think I need an entire new wardrobe, crafted by Kambriel. yes.
I want that dress so badly I'm willing to sell teeth for it...
Trillian looks like either a star of one of those many Twilight rip-off shows or a really cool villains that the hero has trouble with because they're just so evilly beautiful.
I think it's funny that the only pair of men's trousers on Kambriel's website is listed under "accessories." I wonder what Freud would say about that.
Phil and Kaja Foglio will be at our convention! http://www.kumoricon.com
I was SO excited to see they won! I now have to go read all things girl genius! (a year after my friends have been telling me to...)
