I'd love to offer you crash space (and there would, indeed, be dogs aplenty--and one crotchety, but yet, somehow lovable cat named Queen Latifah), but we actually live about 2 hours outside of DC. However...we only live about an hour from Richmond and there is a Roller Derby team down here. http://www.rivercityrollergirls.org/
And you would get to hang out, get loved on by insanely friendly amstaffs, ignored (and possibly shed upon) by the cat, and get to check out some beautiful Virginia countryside.
Just let us know--our couch is available any time.

We have an extra bedroom with a queen-sized bed & guest bathroom, on the Hill, available that night. You'd have to be cool with two 20-lbs terriers since they run the house. I could potentially be the driver, too, just need to check with hubs about schedule that day. My only question is if you'd cover any parking fees since I only have a Zone 6 sticker and most places charge parking on Saturday.
parking, gas & meals. drop me an email w/ yr contact info.
PS: Rolling Thunder is here in DC on Sunday, so if you have some extra time it would be worth checking out as well.
it would be like a tattoo singularity!
I know we're not *in* DC, but you are always welcome here.
Oh and Trin has Frogs now. ;-)
Passed to friends involved with DCRG. :)
be sure to tell them to talk to Wham about getting photographed!
Ha! She's one of the people I emailed!
Surely. It was my profile picture on Facebook for ages. :)
What time Saturday? I have a car and a good knowledge of the area (plus a GPS for what I don't know), but am not available until noon.
we're probably starting early. alas.
I figured, but it was worth asking :D
it's always worth asking!

as it happens
One of the DC Roller Girls is a good friend from college. Not to say she can assist or give you somewhere to crash herself, but she may be able to point you in the not completely wrong direction.
If nothing more definite turns up, email me at theda AT theda-b DOT com.
You've got a space on Fort Belvoir, VA as well as transportation to and from the city and (unskilled) assistant+tour guide services.
I'd love to do photo assistant/driver stuff! And I'm an early bird with a GPS so we can find our way around. :)
oh and I have a cat of our own as well as a mom cat with two week old kittens. :) you can reach me at justplaingeorge AT yahoo.com
woah, two week old kittens is hard to beat. where are you located?

A few minutes from Rob and Liz so if you crash there you're welcome to come over and see baby kittens. :) And I can drive Saturday night as well if you have portrait stuff to do.
Where's that in relation to dc? We should at least get together while I'm down there.
Physically, I'm eleven miles from the mall. Practically, I'm about an hour away by metro and 30-45 minutes by car, assuming there's parking. I'm afraid I have to reneg on my offer of crash space- My inlwas have decided to visit this weekend, too. Normally that wouldn't be a problem, but I live on a military base so I would have to escort you on and off post. Connie is very disappointed.
If you and other assorted folks want to do a dinner somewhere Sunday night I might be able to use the Magic Concierge (chef buddies) to find a table somewhere with tasty vegan food.
I hope you will be pimping War Paint
at the PX!
Heck yeah. You would probably have to have Schiffer work something out with AAFES to get it on the shelves, but if would be a good fit.
Most PXs have booth space outside for local vendors. I've never seen anyone there with books, but I've seen everything else under the sun from cell phone chargers to handmade jewelry. You could also organize a signing/event/benefit with a spouses organization, the VFW, American Legion...
If you want to do something on Fort Belvoir or Fort Myer let me know. (Belvoir would be easier.) If for some crazy reason you ended up at Fort Polk, I have contacts there too, but it's kind of in the middle of nowhere.
let me know what schiffer would hae to do and i'll get them on it. i'd love to have a signing down there. i used to live at quantico.
Our guestroom is available, though about 30-45 minutes from DC. Regardless of where you stay, I move that a place and time be designated where beverages and food can be consumed and shenanigans be had in y'all's company, perhaps the evening of the 26th?
wonderful idea! :) and if you stay with Liz and Rob you're close for me to pick up if you need a driver still. :)
I'm thinking this may be a good idea -- as we could get all the workshop peeps in for a little party. and then jet earlyish in the morning. i'd probably want to do a portrait or two saturday night in DC when i get into town.
kittens! workshop peeps! Sounds like a good plan. :) Just let me know when to come get you!
Super late to the reply party here, but I'm a few miles outside DC with a fold-out couch and friendly foster cats, should all your other million offers somehow fall through. I've been reading your blog for ages and would love to meet you in person someday. :)
Aww man, I fill all those requirements, but I am in Texas! Let us know if you need help shooting the girls down here ;)
Well, I knew that, but you weren't asking for assistants at that time ;)
