I'm in a plane on my way to North Dakota (how amazing) I've got a whole row to myself in a dinky E175LR (stopover in Minneapolis then to Grand Forks). I'm giving a lecture tomorrow at North Dakota University and then heading out west with Bill and Bret and Richard. Looking forward to seeing a new part of America and meeting some people. We have a really short shooting schedule so I'm a bit paranoid about being able to deliver -- I've learned over the years thought that it usually works out. I'll freak out and everything will be ok. I'll be posting photos from the road, most likely to my twitter page and then doing a big update when I get back (though I still haven't written about Chicago and that was Off the Rails.)

Anyway, be well. If you're anywhere near North Dakota University tomorrow, stop by. I'd love to meet you.

The Grand Forks Herald posted a story about my visit today which I reproduce below.

Photographer Kyle Cassidy is visiting UND on Friday to present his ideas on visual storytelling and how the medium of photography has changed over the past decade.

Cassidy, who has been documenting America since the 1990s, is giving a presentation at noon in the East Asia Room in the Chester Fritz Library.

He will also join UND professors William Caraher and Bret Weber that day to take photos in the western part of the state, where the professors have been working on their North Dakota Man Camp Project. The project has been studying the special housing arrangements oilfield workers have using in Williston and Watford City, N.D.

Cassidy has previously photographed a wide range of subjects, including music subcultures, politicians and science fiction fans. Cassidy’s previous work has been collected in the books “Armed America: Portraits of Gun Owners in Their Homes” and “War Paint: Tattoo Culture and the Armed Forces.” His current project is called “Where I Write: Fantasy and Science Fiction Authors in their Creative Spaces.”

I'll accept it. I haven't seen the Great Lakes since... 2000.

University of North Dakota. Wouldn't want to get it confused with North Dakota State University :-)

I'm a SoDaker, so I understand. SDSU is not the same as USD. :)
