I always felt incredibly sad about Willoughby. He's so utterly charming and perfect, and then almost by fiat he turns into a bounder. Pretty much the only warning you get in the book is the remark about "Sunday travel".
If I say, "Colonel Brandon," am I just making a nuisance of myself?
I will always choose the conversationalist, so it would have to be Mr. Ferrars. Besides, having read the book… well... never Willoughby!

On a purely aesthetic level, why can't I have both?
I always pick the conversationalist, the person who's even more interesting on the inside than the outside.
