she's been inside for four days now, mostly hiding behind the red sofa. but last night she came out when i opened a can. i sat down next to her and -- she's let me scratch her head before, for a few seconds -- i started scraching her head while she ate, and petting her sides, she backed up a little bit and smelled my hand, then went back to eating. i scratched her back and she did that sort of "butt in the air" thing that cats do when you scratch their hips -- and, for the first time two things happened a) she seemed not to mind so much that i was touching her and b) she let me pet her for the first time while she didn't actually have her head shoved in a can of 9 lives.
she was always friendlier than momcat, but for the last few days momcat has been positively gregarious in comparison. so. in any event, for the first time last night i got the impression that 1ear and i can have a relationship other than "you bring food, i hide here". she might actually warm up to me. i just want her last few years to make up for all the tragedy that she's suffered through.
now, if only she'd use the litter box ...
oh, and shadow, the cute little adolescent black cat, it's not too late for him. he's friendly and cute and black and easy to catch. i have to keep tossing him out of my house.
