Where does it all come from?

My mom, who's been a painter since before I was born (o rly?) has some work up in the Floating Word show which opens May 3rd at The StrataSphere in the very trendy Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia. Between 5th & 6th streets and Berks Street & Montgomery Avenue. Their number is: 267.974.5060. The opening is May 3rd 1:00 (I'm guessing on that one). and the gallery is "Open Saturdays & Sundays, 1-5 pm, during an exhibition's run."

From the web site:

Darla Beckemeyer Cassidy has developed a body of work based on a letter of Fra Giovanni Giocondo to Countess Allagia Aldobrandeschi on Christmas Eve, 1513. In it, Giocondo encourages the Countess to see within the happenings of this worl, the world beyond.
“Life is so generous a giver. But we, judging its gifts by their covering, cast them away asugly or heavy, or hard. Remove the covering, and you will find beneath it a living splendor”
In her boldly colored artwork Beckemeyer produces the splendor of the world based on her own encounters. These are not representations of the world so much as they are reminiscent of an overwhelming sense of being in the world, at this moment. Their drama is akin to experiencing the first light of dawn, the setting in of dusk, the breaking of a storm They are landscapes revealing light coming from darkness, radiance pouring out of layers of materiality. Like life, these paintings could only have been achieved by making choices—and choices have consequences. The outcome that Beckemeyer tries to achieve are in her titles—“Take Joy”, “Earth But Cloaks Your Heaven”, “Shadows Flee Away”.
