review in Picture

Picture magazine gave me a great review in the September issue. I've been worried lately about getting pigeonholed (Should I be doing this tattoo thing? Should I be doing this rocking chair thing?), but if people think of me in perpetuity as a documentary photographer of Americana, I won't be upset. (Especially if they use the word "grit" in there somewhere.) Because, you know, that's what interests me. I love the world, I love going places, meeting people, seeing things ... but when it comes down to it, what really captivates me the most is this country -- the good things, the bad things, the weird people, the normal people, the mountains, the desert, the trees .... it's going to take me a long time to get bored between Key West and Anchorage.

In LA? Don't forget my opening at Todd Browning on the 11th with

TIMOTHY ARCHIBALD (Sex Machines)
SAM FENTRESS (Bible Road)
ALEX VERTIKOFF (Weird Rooms)

THIS IS OUR FREAKING LIFE!

Here's a quick and dirty account of the four days that Trillian and I were in the Pac-NW. I wrote it on the plane on the way back so it's got some errors in it, but it also has some nice photos (they're all at the end and it's a .pdf). It's one of those weekends I could turn into a novel if only I got incarcerated and had nothing to do for the next 16 years to life....

I envy Elizabeth Barret Browning the down-time she had to write letters. If I'm not stuck on an airplane for six hours, the day is lost forever. Which is sad.

Anyway, I give you -- four days away from the madding crowd:
