tea party

We asked that nobody get us anything for our wedding but you just can't tell some people "no" and my family chipped in and got us a set of china which makes us all grown up and stuff now. So we had a tea party this morning.

You can't really have Vegemite out when Hennepin's around though.

We're off to the summer picnic at the Philadelphia Sketch Club. I think tomorrow we shall be serving high tea. I wonder if Hennepin will let us eat vegan cucumber sandwiches in peace....

Say something nice to someone for no reason today.

What were you doing when you were 18?

trillian_stars and I just got back from the Philadelphia Sketch Club's annual summer picnic. Founded by Thomas Eakins, the Sketch Club is the oldest arts organization in the U.S.. It's filled with interesting people like Ben, who we met today.

Apart from a long career as a commercial artist and having a great face we found out that Ben stormed the beaches at Omaha, then fought in the hedgerows and to the Battle of the Bulge.

The 95th infantry suffered more than 10,000 casualties in WWII but Ben made it back and made popular toys for the rest of his life.

"I think the only reason I lived," he said, "is that I was too young to realize that I was going to die."

we played some pool.

and came home.

Trillian's off now seeing Anthony and Cleopatra with Doctor and Colonel Stars, I'm finishing up some articles and part one of the Swanwick/Cassidy collaboration.

It's been a very nice day, and it's not even over yet.
