Where I write

Taken with mah iPhone

On the road. Airplane, then Drove four hours through the back roads of Ohio, beautiful and lonely, hours went past and I didn't see another car, a gas station, anything. It was silent and lonely. I listened to stories on Escape Pod I'd burned to CD. It really was a lovely thing. Eventually I found a major highway on the GPS and turned in that direction and at 3:25 a.m. I found a motel, scheduled a wakeup call for 9:15 and fell asleep as soon as I got into the bed. I woke up about five minutes before the wakeup call, even thought it was past nine in the morning it still felt like one of those lonely mornings where you're the only one awake. I left the motel and drove the remaining hour to Columbus where I met Charles Finlay (www.ccfinlay.com)at the coffee shop he works in. He wrote the the Traitor to the Crown series (The Patriot Witch, A Spell for the Revolution and The Deamon Redcoat (The Patriot Witch is available for free download on his web page -- check it out). Magic and mayhem during the time of the civil war.

Charles is a really nice, happy kind of person very easy going and fun. One of the worst things about a project like this, and even Armed America is that you meet people who are interesting and intelligent and creative and you think "If we lived closer, we'd probably be friends, but as it is, I'll probably never see them again." Travel taunts you with looks at things you can't keep.

Superfast Travel SciFi #whereiwrite Recap:

Deep Breath --

Left ccfinlay with some sadness and drove to Cincinnati where I met sleigh (all the sf authors are on lj), did some lovely photos there, and then off to Mike Resnick's. As anyone who reads Scifi knows, Mike's a powerhouse with a closet full of Hugos. He totally answered the door with the presence of Isaac Asimov, proved charming and delightful, we did some marvelous photos, he gave me an autographed book (one of the downsides of this job is that you return home with 30 more books than you left with (oh yes, my friends, I suffer too)), I drove down the forest strewn mile long driveway contemplating just how awesome things were, met up with Laura who can't remember if she's written 20 or 23 books and took one of the easiest portraits of my life which will look awesome when you see it.

The day done, I hied off to indigodye's house, where I was greeted like Conquring Gaul, we went to Kentucky and bought some Bourbon, came back and started listening to Andy Guthrie -- called trillian_stars to ask about her show opening tonight and that's about where we are right now. I was going to post something marvelous about Etsy, but there's so much text in front of this now, I'll leave it for it's own post tomorrow.

Be Splendid
