it's a snowpocalypse!

What to do when the blizzard hits? Well, of course you call your friends the Blaxelrods and say "Hey, do you have any costumes that, you know, would be appropriate for a blizzard?" and, because they're the Blaxelrods, say, "Why of course, we've just completed a Lovecraft Arctic Explorer costume, it's right here in our closet." And you say "Excellent, let's meet up in the snow and do some photos. And then y'all can come over and we'll watch movies about snow, like 30 Days of Night and The Thing and eat popcorn."

And in the meantime, here's trillian_stars' costume for the upcoming production of Sarte's No Exit (she's playing Estelle -- there's more about it in Trill's LJ and we'll announce it properly later) which she just brought home last night. It was custom made by Curio Theatre's main designer, Karen Heenan.

I asked, Trill says we can't take it out in the snow.

There will probably be an unusual number of posts from us today. Because, you know, a snowpocalypse is blogworthy.

p.s. favorite horror/scifi movies about snow????

Snowpocalypse!

There are some neighbors across the street who were all trashed last night when I was going to bed at 9:00 yelling "HAPPY MARDI GRAS!" and throwing beads at the snow plows from their balcony. They're watching some, I think, sporting event on television because they scream and cheer every couple minutes, but they all ran out onto the balcony to yell "I LOVE YOU!" at trillian_stars but they were out of Mardi Gras beads. There's probably a pile of them three inches deep under the snow.

People have been emailing snowpocalypse movie recommendations:

  • "Let the Right One in" -- (we've seen this, it's 10x awesome)
  • "White out" -- antarctica and Kate Beckensdale
  • "Ice Station Zebra" -- this one is also 10x awesome
  • "Dead Snow" -- german, teenspoitation, snow-zombie-nazi's (shameless overuse of copperplate gothic in the trailer titles -- don't turn this font into the new papyrus people)
  • Dreamcatcher
  • Ginger Snaps, The Beginning
  • Wind Chill
  • Smilla's Sense of Snow -- (this one is like 15x awesome)
  • Whisper
  • Wendego -- (i saw this, it's got the cute kid from Malcom in the Middle in it)
  • Black Christmas -- (the first of the "don't answer the phone" movies, I've heard good things)
  • Ghost Story -- (how could I have forgotten this adaptation of Peter Freaking Straub's awesome frightfest?)
  • Dead of Winter
  • Suspended Animation -- (saw this, I think it's basically a Misery remake w/o Kathy Bates)

Time for hot chocolate and soup while awaiting the Blaxelrods!

Don't forget, virtual party tonight for those of you in Chicago -- silveringridd has the info and a pitcher of Kentucky Prom Queens.

It's "Bury your Friends in the Snow Day" or Shuggoths From West Philadelpha

... at the top of the mountain, on the fourth day from the plane crash Jared made a discovery, one of the Shuggoth's had frozen in the snow. Carefully, he collected its body, paused in mid shape-change.

"Dr. Pretorious back at Miskatonic will be able to use this," he thought, "If I ever make it back from this frozen howling madness."

In the distance, he heard a cry. The Shuggoth in his arms ...

    moved.
