The Day After Sandy (We're Fine)

Just wanted to get something up quick for everybody who's worried about us.

Last time a Hurricane hit Philly the Mayor got on the radio and told us we could expect to be without power for a week and made a series of other equally dire predictions. During the height of the storm we went outside into a moderate drizzle and not much wind. So when the Mayor freaked out again for Hurricane Sandy I didn't expect much.

We sat outside on the back porch for a good deal of it and it was kind of a continuous light drizzle to moderate rain. The wind started to pick up in the evening. I went to bed around 7:00 and Trillian stayed up and watched old movies. I woke up a few times during the night and it was pretty blustery out but it seems Sandy blew herself out crossing New Jersey for the most part. If no one had told me it was a hurricane I wouldn't have known. (As the Inquirer pointed out afterward, we got twice as much from a thunderstorm in August 2011 that didn't even have a name & nobody warned us about. I worry that eventually something terrible IS going to come along and city hall will have burned up their credibility and we'll all be up to our necks in spiders.)

The next morning one of our lawn chairs had blown over but our house seems otherwise unscathed. We found one downed tree and lots of leaves and sticks elsewhere. Totally horrified by the photos from places where people got hit hard -- especially New York, but we're fine here.
