nicki jaine live -- tuesday feb 6th world cafe live

just when you thought she couldn't get any better ... nicki jaine took a year off to go to germany and returned paid in the coin of creativity. she played it close to the vest and nobody heard anything from her for a while with the exception of a host of obscure covers (she did "Little Drummer Boy" and "Rock and Roll Suicide" with former Black Tape for a Blue Girl bandmate Sam Rosenthal in their side project "Revue Noir", and she did a bunch of Marlene Deitrich covers in German on her own) it's hard to say "my favorite song on earth is ...." but i can tell you that i'm completely obsessed with her new song "Simple Star" like I was obsessed with Peter Murphy's "marlene deitrich's favorite poem" and like i was obsessed with Dead Can Dance's "American Dreaming" and like i was obsessed with Attrition's "Girl Called Harmony". It's one of the best songs I've heard in years. when i heard it for the first time last week i could watch the goosebumps crawl up my arms, and i don't get to say that very often.

Nicki's headlining Goddess Theater at the World Cafe Live tomorow, Tuesday February 6th. Show starts at 7:30, nicki probably goes on around 8:30 or 9:00 but you should come early so you can hang out with me.
