black tape for a swell weekend

I remember living in Delaware in the early 1990's and reading an article in Propaganda Magazine about Black Tape for a Blue Girl -- it was my first exposure to them and they sounded slickly brilliant. Of course, over the years, while Black Tape's star continued to rise and they became ubiquitous -- and albums like Remnants of a Deeper Purity turned into classics (now re-issued as a two cd tenth-anniversary set), frontman Sam Rosenthal has become possibly more well known as the owner of the indy label Projekt; releasing albums for the likes of Voltaire and the ever talented Unto Ashes, showing a multifacity of talent largely unknown in the music world.

Imagine my surprise and delight then when my phone rang the other day and the person on the other end said "Hi, this is Sam Rosenthal from Black Tape for a Blue Girl, I need to be in Philly tomorrow night and Nicki Jaine said you might have a spare sofa." He gave me a copy of Halo Star and the new Unto Ashes disks. Woohoo!

Roswell slept on him.
