eBook covers

Jim Hines had a great post a few days back about eBook covers which you can read here. Jim compares a few new eBook covers, including a glorious steampunk one from Tobias Buckell and mentioned in there that our friend, fantasy novelist Stephen Leigh, aka, sleigh, was putting out a new eBook called "The Woods" that he was having difficulty with the cover. I emailed Stephen because I happened to have some recent woods-shots of Rebellion Barbie that were doing nothing. I had a crack at two covers:

You may Clickenzee to Embiggen!

Stephen has other variations in his blog post here.

One of the things that bothered me about reading on the iPad was that I can't figure out if there's a way to view the book covers large -- you tap the book and it sort of zooms up at you, but the cover opens while you're doing it and you're reduced to looking at the cover art (which may be glorious) at 200 pixels high.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on cover art in the digital age, what makes you buy a book, what makes you NOT buy a book, how often you judge a book by its cover and what your favorite book covers are.

(You can also buy "the woods" here, or help Stephen pick a cover here.)
