Some books we've been involved in over the past few months that I wanted to share....

Most especially -- earlier this year Shakespeare Scholar Wayne Myers published The Book of "Twelfth Night, or What You Will" a treatise on the play that in examining the motivations and arcs of the characters, reviews and compares productions of the play going back to the 1930's. I'm pleased and proud but not at all surprised that he included trillian_stars, even including a photo, saying of her:

trillian_stars' Olivia, in knee-high black boots, black-striped stockings, a black leather bustle and a hairpiece out of science fiction, breathed a quiet eroticism and sexual longing in her attraction to Viola-Cesario -- the "man" of her dreams. She was perhaps the ideal Olivia, a blueblood with beauty, brains, and money -- the prize of Illyria."

Perhaps the ideal Olivia -- I, of course, knew that already, but I'm happy to see it in print. Most people don't realize all the hard work and agony that goes behind something like this, that it's not popping on stage for an hour and a half and then having people throw roses at you and going home to do it all again the next day. It's rafts of work and pain and torment too, and it's really nice when someone says I noticed.

In other news, Dr. Grimm's newly published 1000 Steampunk Creations features not only more Trillian Stars, but Jared Axelrod and Liza James, and Heartless Revival's raven dress modeled by Daphne Ng. We got two full pages plus Jared & Liza on the back cover.

And in still other news, Peter Freaking Straub's companion to his NY Times bestselling A Dark Matter, the stand-alone novela A Special Place came out (at the moment, Amazon's selling both the Kindle and the paperback for the same price -- $2.24, go buy one) with one of my portraits of Peter on the back flap. I remember it was a bitter cold winter day and they were making snow in central park for some reason -- I don't know if it was for a movie or for a snowboarding competition, but you're walking along and then all of a sudden, there's this island of wintery snow -- ice in the trees, untouched snow on the ground, in a circle about 100 yards across, and these snow machines, spraying a fine mist into the air, and snow falling from a dozen directions. It was strange and wonderful. I took this photo of Peter outside of a restaurant on the Upper West Side, somewhere. Afterwards and I went to see the Frick Collection on the other side of the park, walking past the magic island of wilderness again and then popping out onto the street. It was a grand day, but then, we try hard to make sure that most of them are.
